American Crisis 13

American Crisis no. 13 was addressed to the American people, and was written by Thomas Paine in 1783. American crisis was about unity, honor, accomplishments, and peace. Paine was telling the American people that unity and virtue was the strength to American independence. Unity is a key to a great union. In order to build a successful empire, virtue, unity, and union should be the driving force.

A revolution as he called it, happened at the right time and led to a successful union, the United States. “The times that tried men’s souls are over, and the greatest and completest revolution the world ever knew, gloriously and happily accomplished.” Paine

The numerous and complicated danger that United States has suffered or escaped, and how she stands today must impress us with contemplation.

The accomplishment of the greatest revolution was not an easy task because it is not in number but in a union that our great strength lays. Let us look back and learn from the past what is yet to be done. “America need never be ashamed to tell her birth, nor relate the stages by which she rose to empire.” Paine

The world has seen American diversity, struggling without yielding, through difficulties, encountering distress, and rising in resolution. She is now descending to the scene of peace and domestic life to enjoy in her own land the sweetness of her labor and the result of her struggles.

America will never forget that a fair national reputation is as important as independence; that it gives dignity, which is often superior to power. If any man lends a hand or contribute to injure her domestic concerns, those will contrive a wound that they will never be in their power to heal.

Unity with proper regulation is the strength of the union; that sovereignty must have powers to protect all part that constitute and compose it. The remembrance of what is past if it operates rightly, must inspire her with ambition, that of adding to the fair fame she began with. Virtue is the love of the homeland, which brings unity. Unity was the strength to accomplish her independence.

Have the United States been less able than they were when the war started, their united strength would not have been equal to the undertaking; they could have failed on something so important that without it, we should have been a ruined people. The strength of having a revolution was the uniting together as one America. In American Revolution, unity was the strength of the union, and virtue was its motivation.

As we have established an inheritance for prosperity, let that inheritance descend, with every mark of an honorable conveyance. The little it will cost, compared with the worth of the states, the greatness of the object, and the value of the national character, will be a profitable exchange.” Paine

The United States of America was founded in July 4, 1776 as a federal republic consisting of fifty states and a federal district.
